Delhi

November 1-6, 2001

We spent our first day in India with Arunav and Yan, both friends from graduate school. We traveled around with Yan while Arunav did wedding stuff, which worked out really well for all 3 of us. Our first day we were a little disoriented and beginning to feel culture shock, so it was really nice to have Arunav to show us around.

In addition to shopping, during our first 5 days we also visited the modern Lotus Temple (a temple for Meditation) and the Qutab Minar Complex. The Qutab Minar is the tallest self standing tower in the world. The tower was started in 1193 AD, is 73 meters high, and has 238 steps. The other buildings in the Qutab Minar Complex/Park are from around the 13th Century.

After visiting Jaipur, we returned to Delhi for the rest of our time in India. Yan's flight left on November 11th, so we visited Delhi's Red Fort and Hamayan's Tomb on November 10th before he left.

After he left we did some shopping, visited my friend Vandana's family, and visited the National Museum.
