Photos of Jaipur environs, November 2001.

North of the city are the main forts from the time when the maharajas fluorished. Also there lies the city of Amer (a.k.a. Amber).

Nahargarh = Tiger Fort. Mixed architectural styles. The maharaja kept his wives here.

Jaigarh. Jai's fort.

At Jaigarh, the world's largest cannon on wheels, with swastikas painted on the aperture. How's that for a cultural double-take.

Views from Jaigarh.

Views of Jaigarh from the main road in the valley.

Amer Fort.

Interior to the fort. Dazzling. Lots of inlaid mirrors.

Floating palace. (At least when the water is high in the lake.)
